IMPACTOR II PENDULUM - Functionality, Innovation and Design

Introducing the IMPACTOR II Pendulum by CEAST, a beautifully crafted instrument developed for performing Charpy, Izod, Dynstat and Tensile Impact tests using either the traditional non-instrumented method - for measuring energy values and impact strength - or the advanced instrumented method - for calculating force as a function of deformation, impact strength and energy absorbed by the specimen.

The Impactor II offers as much in functionality as it does in technical innovation and Italian design. Its unique monolithic cast-iron construction provides absolute rigidity and frame stability – in accordance with international standards - as well as dimensional accuracy that cannot be achieved with assembled structures.

Fully protective guards on either side of the pendulum provide safety during testing. Two drawers (one comes standard, one is optional and dedicated to Izod testing) collect the broken specimens. A patented line of flat hammers developed especially for this instrument, were designed with an ergonomic quick change mechanism: no need for tools or screws and the innovative wedge system assures they are firmly fixed even with just a slight tightening. A sophisticated infra-red system recognizes the hammer being used and prevents possible error due to different energy ranges or test conditions. The specially designed disk brake characterized by a double braking surface assures high braking torque with low effort and a smooth operation. Angle measurements are obtained by means of a new contact-less magnetic encoder which allows virtual absence of friction and incomparable accuracy. To obtain the maximum repeatability of the impact curve starting point and to easily synchronize the data input, a programmable output trigger signal is provided. To avoid the unbalancing and the spring effect of the instrumented hammer connection cable, the instrument can be equipped with miniaturized slip rings to transmit the electric signal with the lowest friction.

Best of all, the IMPACTOR II comes equipped with an advanced embedded PC and high-resolution colour display. This new touch-screen interface allows the operator to manage the entire non-instrumented test and to save the final results into an internal memory, onto a flash memory card or into a PC connected via LAN. Once test parameters and data are saved, executing new or past tests can be done quickly and easily, simply by recalling the saved data. Two different access levels prevent unauthorized usage of the instrument. Optional VisualIMPACT software, designed to control all the functions of CEAST’s impact instruments, including the Impactor II, provides a user-friendly yet powerful interface.

Available with automatic or manual hammer repositioning and with energy levels of up to .50 J. A number of accessories and several specimen conditioning options such as a cryomatic chamber are also available
